Summer Days

Postby Wight on Sun Mar 29, 2009 1:57 am

So several weeks of applying for internships and other summer programs has, alas, come to naught. The last of them sent me a very nice rejection letter yesterday morning, meaning that I may be spending the summer flipping burgers again. (Not. I'D DIE BEFORE I GO BACK TO BURGER KING, YOU HEAR ME). Just wondering what you guys are planning to do now that the prospect of summer is approaching. =)

Aw, but Wighty, I miss your BK stories! The stories from MY store aren't nearly so exciting!
As for summer plans... Eh, I dunno. I'll draw and write some more!

Also I've heard about that site. I'll check it out when I'm not lazy. BUT IT CAN'T BEAT CRACKED.COM O:<

That sucks, man... I'll probably be working part-time over the summer, but when I'm not working I'll be in one or two different performances. I'm thinking of auditioning (again) for the local 'professional theatre' society, since if I make it in, I get paid and get stage time. :P The only problem is, since I'm just about the only person in my age group who frequents the place, I'm generally too young to fit in with the rest of the cast, but at the same time I'm obviously too old for 'child' roles. Bleh.

Anyways, it's after the summer that the real work begins... I'll be going to live in Spain with my grandparents for an entire year, and will be attending a Spanish university during that year. It'll be difficult, but fun. ;) So yeah, those are my plans for the summer and the year following.

Wow, that sounds intense. Spain . . . Do you know fluent Spanish? Or relatively fluent? I'm pretty much fluent in Mandarin, but I wouldn't be able to survive through a year of school in China or anything. As for the theater, it's OK; you can play the angsty teen roles. Like Edward. You can be Edward. =D

NO DRAGON I WILL NEVER GO BACK YOU HEAR ME. I can make up some stories if you like.

ANY STORY IS GOOD, I MISS THEM. D:

Also I can speak fluent... American! 'Cause I live in AMERICA. Yay.

Oh, please, NO!
The god-awful role of 'emo/conflicted teen' is next to IMPOSSIBLE to portray effectively. Unless you make it actually interesting in another way, the character just looks awkward. Twilight can be done right in film (not to say that they actually did it right) because they can use mechanisms like close-up facial shots, digital editing and lighting changes. In theatre, all but some aspects of the lighting changes are impossible, and if you try to communicate your character's thoughts using only your face, no one can see it properly. There's only so much body language that kind of role can have; stooped shoulders only get you far enough as to look somehow troubled.
Anyways, technical talk aside, no thank you. I'll stick to characters with significant non-angst-filled depth, the kind that can actually be played on stage by people who aren't professional actors.

Probably wallowing in self-pity and wading through soul-crushing existential dread.

God I swear I'm an old man already.

As for theater, I'll take your word for it, Magik. One day, I will play a ninja and dress up in black and no one will see me and I will be the best ninja evar.

Re: Dragon:
Please be informed that any mention of the establishment known as Burger King or Carroll's Incorporated (hereby known as The Pit of Horrors) is liable to cause our client's mind to return to its previous psychosis. In this state, he was last seen sitting in a corner and murmuring, "the nuggets . . . the nuggets are coming to EAT ME", so it is evident that this is not at all a desirable state of mind for our client. If you pursue such action, bear in mind that we shall bring whatever legal action we deem necessary to bear.

Sincerely,
God

I'm workin' at Publix this summer. 'Cause that's the only place in the entire area that'll hire 15-year-olds. Go figure eh?
It's been about 15 years since Jurassic Park and I'm still readying my house for a raptor invasion.
