Anime vs. American Animation, which do you like better and why?

You know what? <3 anime, but they each have their good shows. Such as Invader Zim. BEST CARTOON EVER. So sad they cancelled it. D:

Anime ftw. Some American animation isn't bad, but I haven't watched any in a good while, so I wouldn't know.
On a mostly unrelated note, the title of this topic caused me to suddenly think of this.

The first one was a classic, the second was good too though.

Anime because the characters tend to actually semi-resemble human beings (Or whatever species they happen to be)

? I thought anime's biggest criticism was that the style of drawing does not resemble a human, namely that the head is far too large in proportion to the body, the eyes too large in proportion to the face, and the nose and lips far too small. >_>

But yeah. I'm going to have to go with the really classic American animation here. Stuff like Looney Tunes, Tiny Toon Adventures, Animaniacs, Tom and Jerry. Amazing. Anime rarely gets those sorts of laughs out of me, and though I appreciate it for different reasons, nothing in my mind beats the old-time works of MGM and the like.

Meh, I got tired of American animation's childish sense of humor... Of course, it was meant to appeal to children, but over time it felt like they were just repeating the same routine. The more serious cartoons (such as Batman Beyond or the old Johnny Quest) however, were extremely awesome.

However, I've grown to prefer Japanese animation. Though the drawing style has become something of a fad, it seems to me that the plot-lines and settings have a lot more variety, and they aim to appeal more to our appreciation of a good plot rather than our easily amused senses of humor.

Most of my favourite anime and manga are very definitely Seinen, so I don't watch anime for laughs. I do find Ouran High School Host Club very funny, though, and it's very well-drawn.

Hm... I only watch one American animation currently while I watch four different Japanese ones currently. Basically, I love a good portion of the Japanese anime while I don't like a good portion of American made animated shows.

BTW, if you're looking for a good anime that includes everything funny, watch Clannad. Has to be the best Anime I know that doesn't actually involve shooting and killing things *cough* gundam/macross *cough.*

Gundam and Macross are more about politics than they are about killing things.

He used the word, "involve," Peter. While Gundam is certainly not about shooting/killing things, it does contain a good bit of that. :P
I like Japanese anime for the same reason as Stain. Plotline & deeper characters >>> childish/slapstick humour.

Go watch an episode of Family Guy, then go watch... Basically any anime ever.

Which looks more realistic?

Is that a serious question or a rhetorical one?

Rhetorical. Absolutely rhetorical.
Please tell me you don't actually think the 'reality-resembling' factor is comparable between Anime and family guy/simpsons? :(

Hehe. I can't believe someone out there in the world has heard of Ouran High School Host Club. Little cliche but much better at what it does than any others I have seen like it.

Personally, I'm a fan of anime, but the line is getting smaller and smaller between the two. I mean, american cartoons are starting to absorb quite a few aspects of anime. So, I guess that means kids enjoy anime more too, then, huh?

Agreed, Zephyr; and that series (Ouran High School Host Club) was... hilarious but sooo random. When it started getting filler-ish I stopped watching it. :(
Yes, western animation is beginning to resemble anime more, but resembling it more and actually being similar are very different things. I doubt that american cartoons will ever look or feel like anime, and that's as it should be. There's something for everyone, and far be it from me to say that the cartoons should cease to exist simply because I prefer anime.

No, I don't. Not one bit.

I remember Ouran High School Host Club. Though, I was watching it when I was like... twelve... XD
